Well, things are slowly ‘heating’ up it seems like down here in the movie capital of the world. In addition to being back hitting the entertainment studies at UCLA and taking jobs on films in and around the Los Angeles area.
In other news, FRI has been occupying a significant part of my time lately. In addition to helping prepare the Canadian production ”Operation Mongoose” into film festivals, the Indonesian production “One Day when the Rain Falls” which was pushed back slightly due to scheduling conflicts, is now underway to start filming again. I feel both of these productions could have some significant exposure with the connections that have been interrelated between various markets in different countries.
“Mongoose” for example, will most likely reach an audience of the comedy genre, as so far, its test shows in and around Eastern Canada have proved to be beneficial, especially when film festivals open up and any potential buyer or distributor takes an interest in the film. “One Day when the Rain Falls” because it has major and significant financial backing from the International Film Festival of Rotterdam through its Hubert Bals Fund Program, will be distributed to the markets in Western Europe and Asia.
Back in February of this year, FRI helped in co-producing an independent film “Smoke” which was directed by Justin Gray, a student filmmaker at the New York Film Academy campus in Universal Studios, Hollywood. That project is now completed, and thanks to the support of Universal, will be shown at the next Sundance Film Festival later on this year.
And now, FRI is now in production in another international co-production partnership with a group of filmmakers, Andrew Barker and David Flint in the United Kingdom, on their upcoming feature length horror film, “Despair”. Starring in the film, is David Hess, who is very familiar and popular of any horror film fan, having done chilling performances in Wes Craven’s “Last House on the Left”, “Swamp Thing” and “House on the Edge of the Park”. This little horror film involves a female American tourist, who crosses paths with Hess in England, and then kidnaps her to develop a torturous and sinister love relationship. Officially filming on this project, will begin within the next few months.
More to follow on this again, I’m sure.
